Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Season 3, Episode 5: Ninja Quest, Part II

Previously, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers began the true third season with the first part of Ninja Quest.  Rito Revolto came into the series and led a team that destroyed the Zords and took away the Power Rangers’ powers.  That’s right, the Thunder Powers and Thunder Zords are no more.  The high school gang looked on in shock and terror as the bad guys won a battle.  Oh, and Bulk and Skull decided to join the Junior Police Patrol.

What’s going to happen next?  The title really says it all.  The gang will head out on a quest to find their new powers.  They’re going to look for their ninja powers.  If that sounds familiar, it’s basically the story of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie, except there’s no Ivan Ooze.  Lord Zedd, Rita Repulsa, and Rito Revolto will probably cause some destruction on Earth while the teens are away, which will be a problem.  We’ll see though.  Let’s go.
Season 3, Episode 5: Ninja Quest, Part II
The bad guys were celebrating their victory on the moon.  It was at this time that Rito Revolto unveiled his present to his sister.  The eggs that he had placed on the moon hatched into Tenga Warriors, flying bird-like creatures.  They were sent to Earth to attack the powerless Power Rangers and place another egg to hatch.

Meanwhile, the Power Rangers decided that they needed to find a new way to fight the evil of the moon base characters.  They talked with Alpha and Zordon, who told them about the legend of Ninjor and his hidden temple.  They set out on a quest to find Ninjor.

The quest was filled with a few obstacles.  A ring of fire surrounded the friends and burned their map.  Not knowing where to go, Aisha stumbled into quicksand.  The other five friends made a human chain to pull her out.  Then they encountered the Tenga Warriors, before fleeing into what seemed to be the temple entrance.  The last we saw of them, they were going through a wall to who knows where.

Finally, there were Bulk and Skull.  Not too much happened to them.  They went to the Police Academy and signed up for the Junior Police Patrol.  That’s about it.

Only one fight happened, and it wasn’t too big.  The Tenga Warriors came down on the Power Rangers and pinned them to the side of a rock formation.   Without their powers, the gang couldn’t properly fight back.  They fled in fear.
Mighty Morphin Power Rangers chugged right along with its introductions.  The first part of Ninja Quest saw Rito Revolto join the bad guys in their quest to conquer Earth.  It saw him destroy the Zords.  This second part of the story saw the introduction of the Tenga Warriors as the Power Rangers travelled to find their new powers.  This is a major transitional period that will set things up for the season that follows.

The Tenga Warriors were an interesting addition to Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.  Both seasons 1 and 2 saw the bad guys using putties as their main minions.  Lord Zedd’s season 2 putties were stronger versions of what came before, with added Z pads and rock hands that changed the fights up.  Now the putties are being pushed to the side for some flying bird-men creatures.  The Tenga Warriors were introduced in Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie as creatures sent by Ivan Ooze to attack the Power Rangers on their quest to find the Ninja Powers.  Since Ivan Ooze wasn’t a part of the main series, Rito Revolto was the character who brought them to life.  He gave Rita some eggs as a present and the eggs hatched into Tenga Warriors.  They were then sent to attack the Power Rangers.  It was the same end point with a different path to get there.

This episode built the relationships in the moon castle, but it left the story of the Power Rangers fairly bare bones.  They travelled through the desert, with some minor obstacles along the way.  That was it, really.  They didn’t get to their destination.  They were still travelling at the end.  Hopefully the next episode will lead to something big happening for them.

Ninja Quest is turning out to be an interesting transitional storyline for Mighty Morphin Power Rangers.  Two episodes in, and a lot has changed.  More is coming in the next two episodes, which will make the third season feel different from the two that came before it.  It will be a fun journey, and the only way to experience it is to watch the next episode.  Ninja Quest, Part III will be coming soon, so keep an eye out for more Mighty Morphin Power Rangers fun.
